Welcome!

Welcome to the Three Peaks Trial Blog. We'd be gratefull for your comments on the event.

Many thanks to everyone, entrants and helpers, who helped make Three Peaks Trial Challenge Walk 2009 the most successful on record. Hopefully we can repeat the success in 2010! The funds raised from the event was over £2K, a record amount. Another record was the turnout. 664 took part on the day.

Longtown Mountrain Rescue Team were a massive help doing a superb job marshalling all the mountain top checkpoints. They have agreed to assist each year which is good news. This will ensure there is maximum safety cover for walkers taking part. 50% of the funds raised will go to the LMRT for this support.

  1. Hi,

this is a brilliantly organised event...for the last 2 years I've run the Platinum route...very tough but great fun.

Only thing i'd ask is to get water to the Llanbedr checkpoint earlier..its a nightmare assending sugar loaf when dehydrated...

  3. Hi everyone,

we are busy training for the Gold Three Peaks Challenge Route... we just completed linking the Sugar Loaf and the Skirrid but got somewhat lost on the way - again!!.... this is the second time we've tried linking these two and have to say we're not sure about the best route... anyone with a series of OS references to help us out PLEASE!!

We've linked the Blorenge with the Sugar Loaf and that seems fairly straight forward...

Look forward to catching up with everyone in March 2010...

    regards

    H and J

  4. Hi H & J, hope the training's going ok. With regards the query the following is a suggested route:
From the top of Sugar Loaf follow the suggested route for 'Bronze' (see Bronze' web page) until grid ref. 289183. Then head SE to 'Coldblow', follow the track which becomes a road. At the junction with the main road (GR302177) turn left to 'The Crown' pub and checkpoint (GR 302179). Cross the road (heading east) and follow the track passed 'Lower House Farm', crossing the railway (GR309177), the A465 (GR312177) and eventually reaching an unclassified road (GR314176). Turn left (heading north) and follow the road for nearly 3km to Llwynfranc chackpoint (GR332192). Then follow the public right of way to the top of Skirrid Fawr. Hope this helps!

A more scenic route is to go NE off Sugar Loaf towards the car park at GR293202 then around the base of the north end of Bryn Arw (or you can go over if you're feeling energetic) to Bryn Arw Farm (GR306206). Follow the bridleway to Lower Stanton (GR315210). Where the bridleway joins an unclassified road turn left (north) then at the junction with the main road turn right (east) to Llanvihangel Crucorney. Then follow the 'Marches Way' to Llanvihangel Court (GR307204). From Llanvihangel Court continue to follow the 'Marches Way' SE to the top of Skirrid Fawr. This is over 2km longer than the official route which is why the less scenic route is chosen for the Three Peaks Trial.
